Radio hosts walk for hunger

Two radio personalities hope to help the hungry by raising money for an area food bank. Newswatch 16's Nikki Krize caught up with Lura and Shelly on their walk.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — If you're driving through parts of central Pennsylvania over the next three days, you might see two women pushing empty shopping carts.

Lura Good and Shelly Woods are radio personalities at Hanna Radio and Bigfoot Country, based in the Selinsgrove area. This week, they are walking from Selinsgrove to Bloomsburg to raise money for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

"32 miles, four counties, we walk every single step of the way. Luckily, this year, fingers crossed, it's beautiful weather!" Lura Good said.

This is the third annual Lura's Walk for Hunger. The empty shopping carts symbolize that there are people who are hungry this holiday season.

This year, Lura's coworker and Bigfoot Country host Shelly Woods joined the effort with Shelly's Walk for Hunger.

"Last year, I went for a little bit of the walk and helped Lura out. I saw how fun it is and how much of a challenge it is. If she's raising a lot of money with Lura's Walk for Hunger on Hanna Radio, we have Bigfoot Country and can raise even more money with a bigger coverage area," Shelly Woods said.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank says just $1 feeds four kids.

"Good people who are food insecure aren't necessarily the individuals you think of. Your friends and neighbors absolutely could be food-insecure coming into the holidays. It is a real problem, and that's why schools have backpack programs," Lura said.

"We need to help out the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. It's a real problem, and they need a lot of funds. If I can help out, I will," Shelly added.

You can donate at Hanna Radio or Bigfoot Country.
