Spartan Games kicks off with torch passing

The torch will make a visit to all participating North Schuylkill schools to get athletes excited.

ASHLAND, Pa. — Students at North Schuylkill Junior and Senior High School passed the torch to kick off the countdown to the annual Spartan Games in Schuylkill County.

Like the Special Olympics, the Spartan Games is a county-wide track meet.

All of the athletes competing are students living with disabilities.

Before game day comes in May, the torch will make a visit to all participating schools to get athletes of all abilities excited.

"And I did, over the years, ever since elementary school, I've been really enjoying the Spartan Games, over the years, ever since I first begun," said Coleman Kruger, Spartan Games athlete.

From throwing to jumping and running, there's an event for every kind of athlete coming to Schuylkill County this May.
