Mothers in mourning hope for justice in New Philadelphia

Newswatch 16's Jack Culkin spoke with the mothers of Hunter Mock and Angelito Caraballo, two young men who they say were taken far too soon.

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — For mothers Tanya Evans and Kate Mock, the last week and a half has been a time of mourning after their sons Hunter Mock and Angelito Caraballo were found murdered in a wooded area outside New Philadelphia.

"My other children were scared to even sleep at home at first; we are just getting back in the routine of that," said Tanya Evans, mother of Angelito Caraballo.

"Up until the ceremony, we never got closure of seeing our boys, so it never felt real. I could never wrap my head around the fact that my son was never coming home," said Kate Mock, mother of Hunter Mock.

Mock remembers her son Hunter as a caring outdoorsman, an 18-year-old who loved to hunt and hang out with his little brother.

"You know, as much as any teenage boy says, 'I'm nothing like you,' every day I see he's exactly me, only so much stronger and a lot cuter," said Kate.

Evans says Angelito was the protector of his siblings, something her daughter Sabrhia will never forget.

"He would protect me because I used to get picked on by my other brothers, and he used to stick up for me," said Sabrhia Davis Garcia, Angelito's sister.

Both mothers say they expect justice for their boys and closure for their families.

"I feel like with this ongoing, I can't even grieve the way a normal person would like, say, if someone passed in a car accident or something like that. He was murdered," said Tanya.

"I keep hearing sorry for your loss, and I keep telling everybody, I didn't lose my kid; he was stolen. I want my son to be remembered for the good and wonderful things about him, and this is just so ugly," said Kate.

The investigation into who killed Hunter and Angelito continues. So far, police have not named a suspect in the case.
