LAKE WALLENPAUPACK -- A longtime family resort on Lake Wallenpaupack is undergoing a major facelift this winter.

Ehrhardt's has new owners who are taking  the resort back to its roots.

While the wind howls off the lake, this winter is a busy time at Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort on Route 507.

Crews are overhauling the 14 buildings that make up the long-standing summer destination now that new owners are restoring both the original look and the original name: Silver Birches.

"Everything is getting a facelift at one time, so it’s going to bode well for the future of the property going forward," said former owner Eric Ehrhardt.

Ehrhardt's family has owned the resort for more than 70 years. Now the Genzlinger family who owns Settlers Inn and Ledges Hotel in Hawley are picking up where the Ehrhardts left off upgrading the aging resort.

"We hope to cross utilize the properties for the guests. So that there are more amenities in each property than the properties individually," said Grant Genzlinger.

Not only will the inn and motel get a new look, the restaurant and bar will also be overhauled in the coming months.

"We’re going to get a nice facelift, and things are going to change. I think a lot of people are going to be happy to see," said employee Anita Harsche.

"I think it’s going to be much nicer, the changes we’ve heard. That’s going to happen the bar down by the lake will be much nicer," said customer Mike Lauerson.

The owners of Silver Birches said the restaurant and banquet hall will stay open during renovations which should wrap up by mid-May.
