One dead after crash in Lycoming County

The fatal wreck happened just after noon on Saturday near Muncy.

MUNCY, Pa. — A man is dead after a crash in Lycoming County.

It happened just after noon on Saturday along Route 220 in Muncy Township.

According to state police at Montoursville, William Messersmith was driving alone in a Chevy Silverado when he lost control.

The truck left the roadway, ran across a driveway, and fell into a ditch before hitting a tree. 

It's unclear what caused Messersmith to go off track. According to the Lycoming County Coroner's Office, Messersmith was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained no fatal injuries. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.

The Montoursville resident was 87 years old.
