Officers responded to Oram Street and North Bromley Avenue in Scranton around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Police in Lackawanna County said a man armed with an AK-47 rifle menaced others in part of West Scranton on Saturday night.

Officers responded to Oram Street and North Bromley Avenue around 7:30 p.m. According to police, Elvis Ray Nieves-Medina showed up at a porch there carrying the rifle about 15 minutes after getting into a minor verbal argument with someone who lives there.

The police arrested Nieves-Medina and found he had a pistol in his waistband, three magazines for the gun, and a total of 39 bullets, according to a criminal complaint. The police also found the AK-47, which was loaded with a round in the chamber. Doorbell camera footage captured Nieves-Medina holding the rifle, police said.

No one was hurt.

Nieves-Medina is locked up in the Lackawanna County Prison on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault by menace, reckless endangerment, and harassment.

Officers cleared out of the area around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
