Knoebels prepares for opening weekend

Less than 48 hours until the fun, food, and fantasy are back at Knoebels Amusement Resort.

ELYSBURG, Pa. — The campground at Knoebels Amusement Resort is filling up as people are coming for the park's opening weekend.

"We're excited. The weather is wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend to start this," Tina Venditti said.

"There are kids coming. We are honorary grandparents, but there are kids coming who enjoy this park since they were knee high to the grasshopper," Robin Manfredi said.

Just a few yards away, park employees are busy. With less than 48 hours until Knoebels opens for the season, it's crunch time.

"We are preparing a lot of the food stands, doing ride operator training, ride testing. Our team has been hard at work all winter long since the park closed to get us to this point today, and we couldn't be more excited," said resort spokesperson Stacy Yutko.

From testing out the fryers to touching up paint, there's a lot going on at the park near Elysburg.

Yutko says the majority of the rides will be open this weekend.

"Any of the rides that you might see closed at this early point in the season will just be because of a planned restoration process or installation of a brand-new ride like the brand-new Power Surge."

There are some new foods at the park, including an ice cream flavor to celebrate the old mill turning 50. Roaring Creek Ripple has banana, peanut butter, and chocolate.

Knoebels is open Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
