Coffee with Corgis event held in Sunbury

Dog lovers from all over northeastern Pennsylvania and around the state got together for the first-ever corgi convention in Northumberland County.

SUNBURY, Pa. — The first-ever northeastern Pennsylvania corgi convention in Northumberland County was a success.

This corgi-centered event is hosted by Watson's Wish Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission of financially assisting dog owners with any life-saving surgeries and procedures needed for their furry loved ones.

"I wanted to do this because I knew getting all these Corgis in one place would bring a lot of people to the area, and people have come from as far as from Pittsburgh, which is like a 4 or 5-hour drive just to be here so it's raising so much awareness and funds for Watson's Wish," said Jessica Baninski, Founder of Watson's Wish Foundation.

This golden, Evie, is one of the pups that Watson's Wish Foundation helped when she was diagnosed with cancer and had to get her leg amputated.

She is now a healthy and happy girl.

Kelly Scheaffer is one of those people who took a long drive just to be here.

"This is Zeb, and he's named after Grandpa Walton, Zebulan Walton and this is Sandy D., and she will be fifteen years old in August. I didn't know what to expect, and the amount of corgis is amazing. It's just totally amazing. All dogs, they're all they're beautiful. All the friendly people, you just bring a dog out, and everybody gets together. It's wonderful, and I'm so glad they're doing this to benefit dogs. Dogs need help; they really do," said Kelly.

The convention even held an eating contest for the corgies and a costume contest. One furry girl named Stella traveled an hour and a half to be here. She wasn't entered into the costume contest, but she won the hearts of many.

"We got Stella here. She's nine months old. You know she's got her little butterfly wings on. We're just enjoying the day," said Colleen Yurek, Exeter Township.

The convention even had corgi-themed tattoos available on the spot.

Many attendees hoped this corgi convention was the first of many. If you'd like to know more about the Watson Wish Foundation, click here.
