Hundreds of gowns donated to prom dress drive in Hazleton

Prom season is right around the corner, and thanks to a dress drive in Luzerne County, Hazleton Area School District students will have hundreds of dress options.

HAZLETON, Pa. — With spring on the horizon, prom season isn't far behind.

Now is the time to pick out a dress, and the organizers of one dress drive in Luzerne County say they have a lot of options.

Last month, Newswatch 16 told you about a free prom dress drive organized by the Hazleton City Police Department.

Officers say they were expecting about 75 dresses to be donated but have received more than 300 for girls in the Hazleton Area School District to choose from.

"We have every color, every size, every shape. If you want a plain dress, if you want a dress with some sparkles or some bling on it. We have just about everything you could want," said Officer Jessica Surkin, PIO, Hazleton Police Department.

The department is no longer accepting donations.

Students are asked to contact the Hazleton City Police Department at jusrkin@hazletonpd.org or (570) 459-4940 ext. 216 to set up times to try on dresses.
