Recycling event this weekend in Moosic

PNC Field in Moosic will host the event Friday and Saturday. Various hazardous materials will be accepted.

MOOSIC, Pa. — A free recycling event for household hazardous waste items is scheduled for this weekend at PNC Field in Moosic. 

This is the first time in nearly 20 years that Lackawanna County has hosted an event like this.

So, if you have things like fluorescent light bulbs, motor oil, paint, or batteries laying around, you can bring them to the field. The event will run on Friday and Saturday. 

Organizers are asking you to register online first to keep the process running smoothly.

"We want them to pre-register so we can get an idea of what we're going to be getting, how many people are going to come.  Also, we want to keep it safe and uniform for everybody." said Nicole Shapiro, Director of the Lackawanna County Office of Environmental Sustainability.

The items that will be accepted include:

Fluorescent lightbulbs, Adhesives, Motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline, kerosene, propane and propane tanks. Batteries, automotive and household, lithium, but no electric vehicle batteries. Fire extinguishers. Floor and furniture polish. Rodent and other poisons. Household cleaners, bleach and other corrosive or flammable compounds. Household and pool chemicals. Pesticides, herbicides and other lawn treatment chemicals. Oil-based paints, rust inhibitors, stains, turpentine, paint thinners, but no latex-based paint. Driveway sealer.
