Shoppers flock to stores for post-holiday deals

Newswatch 16's Courtney Harrison spoke with shoppers about what brought them out on Tuesday.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Shoppers with bags in hand walked around the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City, but these aren't last-minute shoppers for Christmas. These folks were here to hit the after-Christmas Sales.

Jessica Evans of Pleasant Mount says she loves shopping for a deal, "I got a lot of stuff for only $50 bucks, so that's not bad."

Many of these shoppers had something other than cash burning a hole in their pockets; they were ready to spend.

"We got gift cards for Christmas, and we're going to just these stores," said Anthony Stanco, Newton Township.

"Lululemon, Sephora, and Amazon. 'Do you prefer getting gift cards?' Yeah. 'How come?' Because then I can pick out whatever I want," said Olivia O'Brien, Dunmore.

Many people we spoke with say they're taking advantage of these holiday sales because of how expensive everything is these days.

"And I had a bunch of coupons already on top of the sales for Bath and Body Works, so it was really good. You've got to be a smart shopper these days. My Nana taught me the best shopping is when there is sales and coupons," said Evans.

There were other shoppers who weren't there to make purchases with gift cards. They were there to make returns or exchanges with gifts they got for Christmas.

"Santa doesn't bring gift cards. Thank God the North Pole accepts exchanges at the Viewmont Mall," said Chris Baranowski, Wilkes-Barre.

Even Santa can get it wrong every now and then.
