1,000 holiday blow molds up for grabs in Lackawanna County this weekend

An auction is being held this weekend in Spring Brook Township featuring holiday decorations that have recently had a revival in popularity.

MOSCOW, Pa. — The Jones Auction House near Moscow is filled to the brim with blow molds.  Everywhere you look, there are snowmen, Santas, reindeer, and more!

Eric Jones and his family have been in the auction business for a long time, but these specialty items are fairly new.  Jones says it all sort of started by accident with just a few pieces they received to sell.  Before he knew it, the blowmold interest blew up!

"The following year, they brought more and then more, and then it turned into this.  Every year it's a thousand plus pieces in November," Jones said.

Each year, Jones travels the country to find some of these blow molds.

"Some very rare pieces like the mechanical Santa, we've never had him before, and we have municipal pieces.  There's something for everybody," Jones said.

The auction draws hundreds of people from all across the country and even Canada.

Jones says preparing for this auction is a lot of work but enjoys seeing some of the same faces every year and many new ones as the popularity of blow molds grows.

"It's a generational thing.  We grew up with them, we love them and want to enjoy them with our families and make memories that we remember when we were kids," said Jones.

There will also be some brand new blow molds at the auction made specifically for the Jones Auction House.

"We actually started making our own in the U.S.  They're being made in Detroit, and we'll have some on-site to unveil on Sunday."

The auction house will be open Saturday for a preview day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will also be a preview starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday before the sale begins.
