A veteran of WWII who hailed from Carbon County has been laid to rest

Cornelius "Connie" McHugh from Lehighton died just a few weeks shy of his 102nd birthday.

LEHIGHTON, Pa. — A World War II veteran from Carbon County has passed away.

Cornelius "Connie" McHugh from Lehighton died just a few weeks shy of his 102nd birthday.

Jon Meyer met him On The Pennsylvania Road two years ago.

McHugh signed up for the Marines the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific during the war.

He was a regular at the American Legion and fire company in Lehighton and was known for saying, "Any day you're breathing is a good day."

The funeral for Connie McHugh took place Friday morning in Carbon County.
