Car show held at coal mine museum in Carbon County

Classic cars filled the grounds at No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum in Lansford on Sunday.

LANSFORD, Pa. — No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum hosts a car show and picnic every Memorial Day weekend.

There was homemade food and live music for folks to enjoy as they checked out the antique cars.

But the main attraction for many was the chance to tour the mine itself.

Organizers say it's all a great way to start the summer.

"Memorial Day weekend is actually kicking off the summer for us down here. It's great to see people coming out. Cars continue to stream in a few at a time during the day. It's great, great to see the fun. People, families coming out together, sharing the day," said Dale Freudenberger, No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum.

The No. 9 Mine in Carbon County first opened in 1855; it is the world's oldest operating deep mine.
