Cloudy skies affect eclipse views in Lackawanna County

Many people across Lackawanna County were looking up, hoping to catch a glimpse of the eclipse through cloudy skies.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — While cloudy skies across Lackawanna County blocked most people's view of the eclipse, Scranton Prep's athletic department wasn't taking any chances.

At Connell Park, Monday afternoon's baseball game against Abington Heights was delayed so players could just focus on the ball and not have to worry about staring at the sun.

"We bumped our game back to 5 o'clock just for safety reasons. We never expected to be cloudy as it is," said Prep's head coach, Mark Seitzinger. "They said 4:38 pm we done so we can get 5 o'clock would be the safest time."

Nearby, At Oak Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Taylor, all residents and staff could do was look at the sky and hope for the best.

Throwing a party as they prepared to catch an extraordinary Phenomenon.

"It's just like a really important event that we were able to kind of make fun as well for for everyone as well," said Mark Seitzinger the centers Director of Admissions and Marketing.

Out on the patio, Donna Symancek and Emma Schweers say breaks is the cloud coverage allowed for BRIEF glimpses of the eclipse.

"You could see through the clouds; you could see a quarter moon at times or a quarter sun," said Symancek.

"We saw a little bit," said Schweers. "So we weren't totally disappointed."

For Schweers the last eclipse she saw was in 1979.

Now she can say she's seen her second total eclipse in two different centuries.

"It's very special it's special when you, when you are seeing it for the first time like I did, it's even more special the second time." said Schweers.

If you didn't catch it this time around don't worry there will be another total solar eclipse you might just have to wait a while.

The next one will affect a majority of U.S. states in 2045.
