Coroner called to brush fire in Schuylkill County

Fire crews responded to the brush fire along Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

TAMAQUA, Pa. — Fire crews responded to a home in Schuylkill County Sunday afternoon for reports of a brush fire.

Flames broke out at the home along the 200 block of Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua around 12:30 p.m.

Soon after fire crews arrived, the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office was called to the scene for a deceased elderly man found near the home.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire. However, Newswatch 16 saw investigators placing evidence markers leading into the woods behind the house.

Attempts to reach police in Tamaqua for more details were not successful. A state police spokesman said they were not involved in the investigation Sunday afternoon.
