Newswatch 16's Jack Culkin was in Schuylkill County, where good food and good times are in store all weekend long.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — For more than 75 years, it’s been all about the food and fire trucks here at Friendship Fire Company No.1 near Frackville as thousands get ready to make their way to the fire hall.

From delectable desserts like Frank’s funnel cakes, to the taste of an ice cold Yuengling.

It’s officially block party season in Schuylkill County and it starts at the Friendship Fire Company No.1 in Butler Township.

"We have rides for the kids. We have a bunch of food homemade food blinis pierogies, bean soup is our big seller." said Zack Chernewski, President of Friendship Fire Company No 1.

"Three day weekend, awesome…the bands, the food it’s awesome." said Jack Frantz, of Frackville.

As a Memorial Day weekend tradition for more than 75 years, the block party draws in a few thousand people from here at home and a far to grab some delicious food and to have a good time.

"I’ve been stationed in Norfolk for a while that I don’t know like the big city like that like all the traffic and all that so I come up here with him and hang. It’s been pretty entertaining so far…the food is delicious especially those pierogies. Oh my gosh." said Lathan Grace, visiting from Arkansas.

"Oh, everybody can’t wait. This is the first festival of the year for Frackville and everybody just loves it." said Mary O'Donnel of Frackville.

With sirens blaring, 92 fire trucks from departments all over Schuylkill County traveled down North 7th street.

Kicking off a holiday weekend, all for a good cause.

Set to run through Sunday, the fire companies' president tells us that all proceeds from the block party fundraiser will go towards maintaining equipment and hopefully keep the Department serving the public for 99 more years.
