Winterfest returns to downtown Stroudsburg

Newswatch 16's Amanda Eustice shows us the fun in store for folks in Monroe County at Winterfest in downtown Stroudsburg.

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Snowmen of Stroudsburg won't be the only ones on display this weekend in the borough. Ice sculptures will fill the streets for Stroudsburg's Winterfest.

"The weather will actually be cold enough. So, it will be cold and feel like winter, but not so cold that it's going to be freezing and the sculptures will not melt within an hour, which has happened in the past (with temperatures) in the 50s and 60s," said Stroudsburg Borough Manager Larry Kopp.

This year's theme is "Children's Storytime."

More than 50 sculptures are being put in place, including a large display and ice-carving demonstration on Courthouse Square.

Many businesses throughout the borough will have deals. Pocono Soap on North 7th Street is one of them.

"We're having Little Critter from the 'Little Critter' book series, and that's kind of nostalgic for all of us who grew up in the '80s and '90s, but also kids today. And we are doing a free lip balm with any $15 purchase that day, and it's a special Winterfest-themed lip balm," said Amanda Beam, Pocono Soap's general manager.

While the businesses in the borough may be ready, the streets are not. Kopp says parking spots must be cleared in time for the weekend fun.

Several churches in Stroudsburg are also taking part. At Christ Episcopal Church, this year's Winterfest theme goes hand in hand with their free giveaway.

"Our theme is 'The Lorax,'" said Fr. Bruce Gowe. 'They'll see the ice sculpture. They'll come in and get smores, tabletop smores. They'll come in and get to choose books that we are giving out thanks to Book Smiles."

Winterfest runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday is Stroudsburg Winterfest! Ice Sculptures stay up until they melt ❄️ So bundle up with the family, explore downtown, and support your local businesses!
