Scout camp in the Poconos hosting Halloweekend

As Newswatch 16's Emily Kress explains, you don't have to be a scout to get in on the fun.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Since 1957, the Resica Falls Scout Reservation in Middle Smithfield Township has been home to the scouts.

"Of course, there are trails all over this reservation. We have 4,200 acres, and you can go biking and hiking. It's a beautiful place," said Assistant Camp Director Jerry Reed.

And now it is transforming into a Halloween attraction.

For one night on Saturday, the reservation will be open to the public for the inaugural Halloweekend.

"The troops that the boys and girls can join are in the community itself, so the scouts are in the community, so we are inviting the community to come to our home this weekend," said Reed.

The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with some family-friendly activities.

"We have pumpkin bowling, pumpkin painting, candle making," Reed said. "We have a spider web where you have to climb without touching the web. "

Once the darkness falls, thrill seekers can take a haunted hayride through the woods leading up to the haunted lodge. What lurks behind the doors? You'll have to find out for yourself.

"It's a little scary, may not be for everyone, but come have fun," said Reed.
