Identities released after deadly shooting in Luzerne County

Police responded to a home along East Union Street in Nanticoke around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

NANTICOKE, Pa. — Nanticoke's police chief tells Newswatch 16 Scott Richards died Tuesday night after being on life support. He fatally shot his partner and then turned the gun on himself.

Investigators say Carrie Boneforte was shot and killed by Scott Richards at their home on East Union Street in Nanticoke around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

According to court paperwork, officers found Richards lying in a pool of blood inside the home. Police believe he shot himself in the head but was still breathing when they found him.

Richards' partner, Carrie Boneforte, was found dead of a gunshot wound nearby.

Officers believe Richards shot and killed Boneforte before turning the gun himself.
