Governor Wolf vetoes bill to delay closure of White Haven Center

The bill would have blocked the closure for at least five years and a decision to close any state center would be placed in the hands of a task force.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Governor Wolf vetoed a bill Wednesday that would have delayed the closure of any state center, including the White Haven Center in Luzerne County.

More than 100 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities live there.

The bill would have blocked the closure for at least five years, and a decision to close any state center would be placed in the hands of a task force.
