Alcohol and addiction awareness event held in Luzerne County

One group in Luzerne County is spreading awareness for substance abuse disorders.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Our Brother's Keeper held its 3rd annual Alcohol and Addiction Awareness event Saturday at Robert Yaple Memorial Park in Hughestown.

For children, the event featured face painting and a bounce house. For adults, there were resource and information tables, along with a Narcan presentation from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

There were also free Narcan kits for those who need them.

"The hope is mostly education. We want people to understand substance use disorder and what it exactly involves. Also, the foundation was started because of an overdose; my brother passed away, so we're trying to spread a message of hope and acceptance so people can understand we don't want to be addicts. We don't want this disease. We're just trying to educate the community a little bit," said Katrina Gentner, founder of Our Brother's Keeper.

Proceeds from the event will for to Our Brother's Keeper's Christmas toy donation drive.
