Mid Valley hosts special needs track meet to celebrate the opening of new stadium

The Mid Valley School District in Lackawanna County celebrated the opening of its new stadium on Thursday with a unique track meet.

THROOP, Pa. — A special track meet was held on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the opening of a new stadium in Throop.

Mid Valley School District in Lackawanna County celebrated the opening of its new stadium with a unique track meet. Several districts brought teams to Throop to participate in the Unified track meet for students with special needs.

"It gives a chance for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to interact with the rest of the student body. There become partnerships-they learn more about each other,  and they work together as a team, and it Fosters is an inclusive environment within the school," said Tom Robinson, with the Special Olympics.

Thursday's unified track meet at Mid Valley's new stadium is part of the Special Olympics.
