Celebrating Spring with maple syrup

As spring gets closer, one college in our area has a unique way of celebrating.

LA PLUME, Pa. — Keystone College held a Maple Sugar Open House and a 5-k walk and run on campus today.

The Maple Open House highlights the beginning of the annual maple sugaring season.

The maple syrup operation at the Sugar Shack utilizes approximately 275 taps to collect sap. Every sugar season, the program produces between 40 to 60 gallons of syrup.

Guests at Sunday's event could see the entire process on how the maple syrup is made.

"We just all love sharing the whole process of maple sugaring. To see the whole community and families come out they enjoy to learn about trees. This whole process is a lot of fun also for the students." Said Kelley Stewart, Director of the Woodlands Campus.
