A scary good time at the Halloween House of Peckville

Newswatch 16's Claire Alfree takes us to the free and homemade Halloween attraction in Lackawanna County.

BLAKELY, Pa. — A couple in the Peckville neighborhood of Blakley have transformed their home into a free Halloween walking tour.

After seeing how expensive it can be for a family to go to a Halloween attraction, husband and wife Rob and Chrissy wanted to put their Halloween collection to good use.

Calling it "The Halloween House of Peckville," the couple opens their home every weekend to families to celebrate the spooky season for free.

There is the option to donate to the Halloween House, but their main goal is to spread Halloween fear and fun until the end of October.

"When I was a little kid, my parents had me up in the Thousand Islands, and there's a haunted house, and this little bat came out, and ever since then, I was afraid of them," said Robert Booth, creator of the Halloween House of Peckville.

But Booth says getting scared is a good thing and is spreading Halloween fear for free by transforming his yard into the Halloween House of Peckville. He's putting his personal horror collection outdoors for the public to enjoy.

"This is my yard. This is nothing special; this is just my stuff, so I'm glad people are enjoying it."

Booth and his partner Chrisie Conway are inviting families of all ages to enjoy the Halloween attraction for free to offset the other costs that come with the holiday.

"I imagine several hundred dollars, maybe $400 to $500 if it's a large family just for one night," Conway said.

A mother herself, Conway feels for other families who are trying to get into the spooky spirit while staying on budget.

"With the way the economy is now, I think people are looking for ways to go out and spend family time together and not have to break the bank to do that."

This is why people are traveling from all over northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond to walk through the Halloween House of Peckville.

"If they want to leave right away, they didn't waste all that money going and paying for it and not enjoying it. And if they love it, they can continue to loop through and walk through it again," Conway said.

Conway and Booth see families come back to their haunted house again and again.

"I enjoy the 'trick or repeaters' because they are relentless for horror, and they're coming back every night. So all the way up till Halloween, there's something new put out every day," Booth added.

The couple plan to scare and share their love for horror from now till Halloween.
