16 To The Rescue: Dexter

In this week's 16 to the Rescue, we meet an orange tabby cat who loves everyone and whose favorite pastime is doing nothing.

MOUNTAIN TOP, Pa. — In this week's 16 to the Rescue, we meet an orange tabby cat who loves everyone and whose favorite pastime is doing nothing. Newswatch 16's Ally Gallo introduces us to Dexter.

"Dexter is a big, fat, lazy Garfield cat," said Donna Bohn, NEPA Pet Fund and Rescue.

Coincidentally, one of his favorite places to lounge around is on top of the scale at his foster home in Mountain Top. Dexter is proud of those nearly 18 pounds.

"I think maybe whoever adopts him is going to have to get him his own baby scale," Bohn, his foster mom, joked.

That is not a requirement, though. Not much is because Dexter's favorite thing to do is nothing.

"He likes nothing more than to sit around and watch everything that's going on. He's very, very laid back. Not really very active, not really very playful. He just likes to be lump on a log," explained Bohn.

Dexter is probably about 4 or 5 years old. He was a stray rescued from a cat colony a few months ago through NEPA Pet Fund and Rescue.

"But it was near a very busy road, so some of his feline friends had gotten hit in the past, so he was a friendly boy, so we brought him into foster care," Bohn said.

Since then, Dexter's foster mom has just fallen in love with this friendly and gentle boy. He gets along with other cats, but he would be happiest if they're laid back like him. He is also FIV+ but that can only be transferred through deep bite wounds. Dexter would not mind kids, but again, he is not very active, so a low-energy home with adults is probably best.

"He really likes guys. I believe it was a man who fed him while he was out on the streets so if a man walks in the room he just runs right over to him," said Bohn.

All Dexter needs is a loving family who is as sweet to him as he is to everyone else.

"He just likes to observe. He's very, very patient. You would think, with his size, he would be very food-motivated, but he would just sit so patiently for his food. He doesn't mind that everyone else gets their food first. He just sits and watches," Bohn said.
