Valeria Quiñones joined the Newswatch 16 team in January 2024 after graduating from The Pennsylvania State University in May of 2023. She is a Reporter/Multimedia Journalist covering the Schuylkill County and Hazelton Area.
Before joining the team, she worked in The News Lab at Penn State, a start-up newsroom reporting for underserved and underrepresented communities.
She won a PAB Award for her work on Navigating Inflation — A collaboration between the News Lab and WPSU. Between October 2022 and March 2023, she led a team of journalists who visited Tyrone in Blair County several times with the aim of listening to residents and workers talk about the impact of inflation on their businesses, households, and day-to-day lives.
Valeria was born in Puerto Rico and moved to the Lehigh Valley with her family at 4 years old. She spent most of her childhood traveling back and forth.
When Valeria is not reporting, you can find her spending time with her family, friends, dogs, singing and probably traveling somewhere warm.
