Did your name make the list? Here are the 10 most popular baby names for 2023

The official list of America's most popular baby names for 2023 has arrived.

WASHINGTON — Liam and Olivia were once again America's top baby names in 2023, according to the official list released by the Social Security Administration on Friday.

Olivia has been the most popular girl name for five years in a row and Liam has reigned supreme for seven years now for boys. In 2023, there were 20,802 babies named Liam and 15,270 babies named Olivia, according to SSA data

The top five remained the same as 2022's list for boys and girls: Noah, Oliver, James and Elijah rounded out the top five for boys and Emma, Charlotte, Amelia and Sophia followed Olivia.

Only one new name appeared in the top 10 lists this year, with Mateo jumping from 11th in 2022 all the way to 6th this time around. It's the first time Mateo has made it into the top 10. As a result, Benjamin fell out of the top 10 for the first time since 2014.

The Social Security Administration releases the annual list of top baby names around Mother's Day each year.

The Social Security Administration began sharing the most popular baby name list in 1997, with names and data going all the way back to 1880. At the time of a child’s birth, parents give the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, so the SSA list is considered America’s official source for the most popular baby names.

Over the last 100 years, James has been the most popular name for boys, while Mary has been most popular for girls.

According to SSA data, the top five names rising in popularity the fastest for girls was Kaeli, Alitzel, Emryn, Adhara and Azari. For boys, it was Izael, Chozen, Eiden, Cassian and Kyren.
