MIFFLINBURG, Pa. — The pastry case at Gable House Bakery in Mifflinburg is filled with colorful Easter treats, but employees say there will be even more later this week.
"We have plans for pies in the case and cakes and cupcakes, macarons," said Nikki Keister-Hornig, owner of the Gable House Bakery.
Owner Nikki Keister-Hornig says it's been a busy week at the bakery, all hands on deck.
"We've done a lot of special decorating this week of our normal stuff in the case, just to make them look a little more fun and festive. We start prepping all of that Monday, hoping that by Saturday it has all left the bakery," said Keister-Hornig.
Easter is one of the bakery's busiest holidays of the year.
"This week, we're suddenly getting calls of like, oh no, can I still place an order because people are realizing it is Easter week," added Keister-Hornig.
Gable House Bakery has been in Mifflinburg for eight years. Keister-Hornig says over the years, she's learned Easter is a "cash and carry" holiday, meaning people tend to just stop in and buy items off the shelf rather than preorder.
"That's kind of the trend we've seen year after year. We basically up our production by about 30% on our key sellers: cupcakes, macarons, case cakes. All of that we do a lot more of anticipating we're going to get a lot more people through the door."
Gable House Bakery will be open on Saturday for last-minute shoppers.
