Three charged with animal cruelty for theft of Schuylkill County cat

Cops say three people are responsible for stealing a cat and dumping it out of the back of a truck.

CRESSONA, Pa. — Three Schuylkill County men are charged with animal cruelty and accused of stealing a cat last week and throwing it out of the truck.

The three facing charges were identified Wednesday as Andrew Huber, 26, and 19-year-olds Ayden Spantak and Nathan Youst.

The theft happened last week in a home along Hillcroft Avenue in Cressona.

The case has been gaining attention since the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA posted about it.

The owners are still holding out hope and looking for their pet.

The trio were detected, state police said, because household cameras caught the group in the act. The victim's mother was able to identify them because her daughter dates Huber, and Huber is friends with Spantak and Youst, state police said.

Youst later told the cat's owner, Isabella Cruz, that they threw the cat out of the back of the truck because "she is always complaining about it," according to the complaint.

Messages left for the three were not returned.

Arrest warrants remained active for them Wednesday afternoon.
