BUTLER TOWNSHIP -- Volunteers laced up their walking shoes in Schuylkill County Sunday to help people with disabilities.
About 300 people took part in the fourth annual Buddy Walk at North Schuylkill Junior Senior High School.
Organizers said the money raised will stay in Schuylkill County to help fund programs and outings for families and children with Down syndrome.
"It means something different for every family," said Matt Fickinger, a parent of a child with Down syndrome. "For us it was just taking the little steps into the acceptance and the awareness and seeing other families out there that are going through the same things that we are."
Parents said Buddy Walks are important to help raise awareness for the genetic condition Down syndrome.
