Three candidates vying for state representative in special election

Besides all the party nominations at stake, voters in one part of the Poconos will choose a new State Representative in a special election.

PIKE COUNTY, Pa. — A special election is set for the 139th District in The State House of Representatives.

Former State Rep. Joe Adams resigned from his seat back in February part way through his term. Now, two candidates are vying to fill the remainder of his term.

On the ballot for the special election and the primary are Democrat Robin Skibber and Republican Jeff Olsommer.

He owns Olsommer and Clark Insurance and is chairman of the board of supervisors for Sterling Township in Wayne County.

"My experience in business, my experience working in the township working with county officials, state officials and involvement through 30 years of working at Olsommer and Clark," said Olsommer.

The 139th District covers parts of Southern Wayne and Northern Pike Counties.

Democrat Robin Skibber recently retired after 22 years at the Pike County Area Agency on Aging.

"I feel I've been accessible my whole career, and I listen. I work hard to help people and I think that is one thing I will definitely take to Harrisburg and to be that accessible representative and be in their community with them," said Skibber.

Republican Matthew Contreras is also on the ballot for the primary election in the 139th District.

He says he's a businessman and community advocate and served in the U.S. Navy.

"I've worked in higher education, I've worked in the private sector, I've owned my own business, I've been an education advocate. I've actually gone to Harrisburg and been an advocate for parental rights, I've even spoken in front of the senate," said Contreras.

The primary election and the special election in the 139th State House District are set for Tuesday, April 23rd.
