Pet pantry feeding Northumberland County dogs and cats

Riley's Pet Grooming is the place to drop off and pick up pet treats. Newswatch 16's Nikki Krize explains.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Riley's Pet Grooming opened last June on West Pine Street in Coal Township. Recently, owner Shaylee Pesarchick decided she wanted to do something for the community. She's seen free food pantries for people and decided to make one for pets.

"Some of these families need help with dog food and stuff. I hear some sad stories with people coming in here and I just wanted to help them as much as I can, so I thought that the pet pantry would be awesome," Pesarchick said.

The pet pantry is for anyone who needs food or supplies for their pets or anyone who wants to donate. Take what you need and leave what you can. Pesarchick is accepting dry and wet food for dogs and cats.

"You can drop off toys, blankets, snacks, bones, whatever you think. If you have a dog and they don't like something, you can always drop it off, even if it is open. You can always put it in little baggies and put an expiration date on it."

Pesarchick started the pet pantry last weekend.

"I came down this morning, and it was completely empty, so I know that it's working."

She says the response has been overwhelming.

"A lot of people said when they come for their next grooming appointment, they will be donating as well, so I think it will be a good thing."

The pet pantry is located outside of Riley's Pet Grooming near Shamokin, and it is monitored 24 hours a day.
