SUNBURY -- A well-known businessman from Sunbury died Wednesday after a crash in Union County. Bill Hudson was a cop in Sunbury for more than 20 years, and he owned a restaurant in the city.
It was business as usual at Pop Snyder's Lunch, on Market Street in Sunbury. The regular customers flock to the restaurant everyday, but there was someone missing.
"You had to know Bill. Bill's a nice man. He had the personality. He got along with everybody," said Ron Zimmerman.
Hudson owned Pop Snyder's Lunch for the past 15 years. Wednesday he was killed after he hit a tree while driving on Route 192 near Mifflinburg.
"He was a great guy. He was a good boss to work for. He'd do anything to help you. How about it? He would. Very nice guy," said Wendy Powell, an employee.
Even without its owner, Pop Snyder's Lunch opened the next day. Longtime employee Wendy Powell said Bill would not have had it any other way.
"We don't get off for blizzards, hurricanes or anything. We don't! So I know he'd say I want you there," said Powell.
People in Sunbury said Bill was well-known before he opened Pop Snyder's. He was a police officer in Sunbury for more than 20 years.
"He'd come in and not only talk to the people in the back. He'd sit down with you and talk to you about what's going on in your life. He was just a very, very nice man," said Zimmerman.
Friends said they hope Pop Snyder's Lunch stays open in Sunbury to keep Bill's memory alive.
