WILLIAMSPORT -- If you found a purse on the side of the street filled with cash, would you return it? Well, a college student in Williamsport says he did and he didn't think twice about it.

Early Saturday morning, Zach Fannin, a senior at Lycoming College, was leaving a bar on 3rd Street in Williamsport. His friends took the bus but he decided to walk back to campus with a friend.

"I went out with some buddies to the Cell Block. It was probably about 1, 1:30 we were walking back," Fannin recalled. "I was walking by and my friend, she was walking in front of me, and just happened to notice that there was a purse on the ground, a little hand bag."

Police say that purse had about $2,200 in cash inside.

"I kind of didn't think twice about giving it back," Fannin said.

He says he found the purse on East 4th Street and brought it home, but knew he had to bring it back to its rightful owner.

"The more I was thinking about it, I was just like, 'I got to get this to the police station as fast as possible.'"

Fannin says he brought the purse to police around 4 a.m. Saturday.

"Good to see, you know, especially this time of year with all this negative stuff going on," said Williamsport Police Capt. Michael Orwig.

Capt. Orwig says they were able to get the purse and everything inside back to its rightful owner the same day.

"She was very thankful and appreciative to the person that did this good deed."

So appreciative, the owner of the purse even wrote a thank you card to Fannin.

"If I get some time, I would like to go and see her, kind of I don't know, thank her. She just gave me a little card. That meant the world to me."

"I think in the long run, it will come back to him in tenfold," added Capt. Orwig.
