Polling places in central Pennsylvania see low voter turnout

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker stopped by a polling place in Lycoming County to see what brought the people who did vote out to the polls.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Voters headed into Cochran Primary School in Williamsport on Tuesday for the primary election in  Lycoming County.

Candace Wishon tells us she's been voting since she turned 18.

"Not everywhere in the world do you have the privilege of being able to vote and elect the people that serve you, so for me, it's a privilege. I have hardly ever missed an opportunity to vote since I was young."

Karen Fischer says she came to the polls because of her concern about current events going on in other parts of the world.

"I'm concerned with the way things are right now with the war in Ukraine and the war with Israel and Palestine, and I think we need to stay the course of what we're doing."

While voting, Daniel Gandy noticed the low turnout at the polls.

"It's very disappointing that people don't vote to register how the country's run, their opinions. I suspect less than 20 percent of the people will vote today and that is disappointing."

Others share the importance of coming out and voting.

"It's important that you get out and you vote every time that you get the opportunity, and you got a lot of things coming up in statewide election races from the attorney general's race to eventually in the fall our presidential race," Keith Segraves said.

"We all complain about taxes, laws, and if we don't do our part then we can't say anything," Jim Myers added.
