JERSEY SHORE -- Restaurant owners in Lycoming County hope their hometown touch will help bring a new wave of business to Jersey Shore.

Contractor Troy Musser showed Newswatch 16 around the former Crest Restaurant on Allegheny Street in Jersey Shore.

"The Crest Diner was the number one place to go for breakfast for 40 plus years or so," said Musser.

Now under new ownership, the place has been renamed The Shore Diner. The building has been gutted. Crews work to renovate and build an addition onto the back of the business.

"Excited, yeah, it's great for Jersey Shore. We'll have miniature golf, ice cream. We'll have a new diner banquet, a whole new facility,” said Musser.

"And they are going to be welcomed like they are at their own home. That's our goal is to give really good friendly customer service with comfort food," said David Palski.

Palski's mother used to work at The Crest Restaurant. Now he and three others own the building. Renovations started at the beginning of the month.

"But giving back and being able to provide jobs for people, in all seriousness was what this was all about," said Palski.

The owners tell Newswatch 16 they are doing their best to showcase what Jersey Shore has to offer. That means buying locally, including food equipment and even the lumber.

"We are working on that now to try and buy local beef and to try and buy from all local vendors. Same as the contractors as well."

"They pretty much doubled the size of the building," said Nathan Spotts from Jersey Shore.

The owners plan to add more to the property including a local historic landmark-themed, 18 hole miniature golf course in an adjacent lot.

"It kind of is nice to have a sit-down restaurant in every town. Even if it is a mom and pop shop. You know, but it looks like they are going to be doing a little bit more than a mom and pop shop," said Spotts.

The owners hope construction will be complete by this November.
