Annual job fair draws thousands of Penn College students

Pennsylvania College of Technology students had the opportunity to speak with potential employers. Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker stopped by the job fair.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A job fair in Williamsport drew quite a crowd. Employers from more than 425 companies joined thousands of students from the Pennsylvania College of Technology Bardo Gym and Field House.

"A lot of students here today may be looking for summer internships or perhaps internships to coincide with their academic program for next year, but many of them are also looking for their careers," said Loni Kline, senior vice president for college relations.

Sophomore Brandon Vaughn is a Construction Management major. He has a summer internship lined up but is still looking for more opportunities.

"So far, I've talked to probably four companies and made some good leads. Yesterday was really beneficial, as well. It's going really well," said Vaughn.

Senior Steven Foley is graduating in May with a degree in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering.

"I've had some companies that I've been talking to that's been a little bit more discussion about jobs and internships this year as a senior so—but there's always opportunities," said Foley.

"We're looking for A&P technicians, we're looking for management as well as any other type of entity there is, we have anywhere from HR to accounting," said Tara Deronda, general manager at Textron Aviation.

"Our maintenance team currently is about 750 employees, we're looking for anybody there with experience in mechanical and electrical education to help keep our machines running and help keep everything maintained," said Valerie Rutherford, human resources for EastPenn Manufacturing Deka Batteries.

Penn College in Williamsport plans to expand and grow the job fair based on industry needs. Another job fair is set for this fall.
