In Kingston, voters headed out early to cast their ballots

Newswatch 16's Andy Palumbo was out speaking with the early voters.

KINGSTON, Pa. — There was a steady stream of Luzerne County voters in Kingston Tuesday morning. It's part of Pennsylvania's 120th District, where they are picking a new representative to replace Aaron Kaufer, who is not seeking reelection.

The day started at the Kingston Recreation Center with poll workers setting up their machines, including all the new electronics, getting ready for the polls to open at 7 a.m.

Jim Kane was among the first to show up, voting in a primary contest that traditionally brings out fewer people.

"We need to nominate the proper candidates. Don't leave it up to chance, leave it to the wind," Kane said.

Kane also said he's been voting in every election since he was 18.

John and Susan Makowski were among the early risers and early voters. They also see the importance of voting in a primary.

"You've got to start somewhere, and you know, it all makes a difference," John Makowski said.

They are a couple focusing on the issues.

"I don't want high taxes. I want to see groceries come down. I just want to go back to normal, and hopefully, it will," Susan Makowski said.

Susan is another who values primaries, starting the process, as we head toward the general election in November.

Outside this polling place in Kingston are signs for all the local races. What you do not see are any Trump or Biden signs. Those nominations were locked up long ago.

That brings up the question of whether the Pennsylvania Primary should come earlier in the year so our state has a stronger voice in the presidential process. Our informal survey shows voters are happy with the way things are.

"I vote anyway for local votes, for local state representatives, and that type of thing, not thinking about the presidential," Guy Kroll said.

These faithful voters say they'll all be back to vote for a president in November.
