Travelers hit the road, sky for Thanksgiving

Millions of people across the country have either taken to the sky or hit the road to get to their Thanksgiving destination.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — "We are going to Kansas City to my brother's house, and his family is there, and our other family is coming in from California to meet us there," said Elly Perugino, Kingston.

It was just before 4 p.m. when Elly Perugino of Kingston got ready to board her flight from Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport to Chicago on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

She is one of the estimated 2.7 million people choosing to fly.

"Well, it's quicker. It's too hard to drive when my husband was alive, he would drive, and we would take two days," said Perugino.

"We always book the 5:30 a.m. flight coming up here. Do you know the day before Thanksgiving and usually find that it's ok. It's when you get to the day, you get delays, things of that nature, or stuff starts to get a little bit sketchy," said Logan McLain, Houston, Texas.

Logan McLain of Houston, Texas, is winding down his travel day.

After landing in Newark, he got a rental car to drive the rest of the way to Binghamton until something went wrong.

"Started driving and found that The car had some alignment issues. This was the closest Hertz location to exchange cars, so here we find ourselves, and I haven't been in Wilkes-Barre since I was a kid, which is interesting," said McLain.

Out of the 54.4 million people traveling for Thanksgiving, AAA says more than 49 million of those will be taking a car, just like brothers Zeca and Kadu Santos.

"It's not that bad; we watch YouTube videos and play the ukulele every once in a while; it's pretty nice," said Zeca.

Coming from Upstate New York, the family stopped at the rest area along Interstate 81 in Susquehanna County to stretch their legs.

All before getting back on the road for another two-hour drive to their Grandparents who live outside of Philadelphia.

"We are the only family that lives up here, and everybody else in our family lives in Pennsylvania, so It's pretty rare to see them," said Kadu.

The TSA plans to see travel records broken following the holiday over the weekend, with 2.9 million expected screenings at airports this Sunday.
