Toilet left at Luzerne County polling place

Newswatch 16's Melissa Steininger explains how someone's idea of humor is now being investigated.

LUZERNE, Pa. — It was a sight to behold Monday night—a potty at the polls.

A toilet was left outside Holy Family Church in Luzerne just hours before people in the borough began to cast their ballots there on Election Day.

Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo assured Newswatch 16 that no ballots were inside and said the commode was removed prior to the polls opening.

"It's offensive. And it's disrespect for the poll workers that work that (polling place), the church, the place that houses the polling sites. Just exercise a little civility," Crocamo said.

Luzerne borough police were called to investigate possible crimes like vandalism and scattering of rubbish.

Crocamo says it's acts like this, a joke or not, that tie up county resources.

"Someone put a lot of thought and physical effort into it. I would only hope that that person would use all that effort for good instead of something like that."

Police tell us they do not expect any charges to be filed for this "outhouse offender" in Luzerne.
