Snow impacts morning commute in Luzerne County

It was a pretty sight as the snow was falling Tuesday morning, but the roads near Hazleton weren't as nice as they looked.

HAZLETON, Pa. — It was a pretty sight as the snow was falling Tuesday morning. However, the roads near Hazleton weren't as nice as they looked.

"They're terrible. They're plowed, but they're slippery, terrible. You hit the brakes, and you just slide," said Mike Eddinger of Berwick.

The fine, fresh snowfall led to some slick roadways.

"It's light and powdery, but when it hits the ground, being 19 degrees out, it sticks to the road making it very slippery," Eddinger added.

Drivers near Hazleton are taking some extra precautions on their morning commute.

"Leaving about an hour earlier than I should, just to be safe because people are nuts, and this weather is getting a little crazy," said Scott Dobash of Conyngham.

Even SUVs had a hard time keeping their traction on the roadways.

"I have it in 4-wheel drive, 4-wheel auto. It's not good," added Eddinger.

Drivers say the snow is expected this time of year, especially in northeastern Pennsylvania.

"It's typical. That's northeast PA in the winter. I'm not expecting it to be a nice day out every day," added Dobash.

It's an important reminder for drivers that any type of snowfall, not just the big storms, can cause some treacherous terrain.

"Keep a good distance and go slow," said Eddinger.

"Take it slow, folks, take it slow. It's not worth it," added Dobash.

The snow is expected to taper and move out throughout the afternoon.
