EDWARDSVILLE -- A new ice cream shop is open in Luzerne County.

The old iconic seafood restaurant -- Vic Mar's -- used to be on Main Street in Edwardsville, but in July the building became home to an ice cream parlor called Kyleigh's.

"I used to come here for seafood all the time and it'd be packed every Friday. I'm hoping they get a crowd like that, too," said customer Karen Brenner.

The building's new owner has traded dinner for dessert. Cora Blackwell was a nurse until she opened the ice cream parlor.

"I did it in memory of my son and his girlfriend."

Her son Kyle Eckrote and his girlfriend Courtney Leigh Engle died in a car crash in Plymouth Township in 2009.

To remember them, Blackwell opened Kyleigh's, which is a combination of their names. She says the ice cream shop and restaurant is a combination of their personalities.

"They would love this, you know. This would probably be one of their hangouts. You know, I think, anyway, "said Blackwell.

Folks who come to Kyleigh's in Edwardsville may not know the reason behind the name, but they do know they like the ice cream.

"I like it, the kids like it, it's nice," said Alice Hunlock of Edwardsville.

"The ice cream's actually really good. They have a lot of flavors," said Naki Gross of Edwardsville.

"Well, I come here for the ice cream, excellent ice cream. I believe it's Blue Ribbon ice cream. It's very rich," said Walt Glogowski of Shavertown.

Blackwell also offers hot dogs, burgers, and other hot eats. But more than anything, she says she wishes her son and his girlfriend could come back to take over.
