Football game kicks off after postponement due to threats

One of the most highly anticipated high school football games of the season was finally played Saturday after school threats forced it to reschedule.

LEHMAN, Pa. — The stands at Lake-Lehman High School were filled with football fans Saturday, but that wasn't the original game plan.

The match-up between the Dallas Mountaineers and the Lake-Lehman Black Knights was postponed Friday after another rash of school threats.

"There is no right answer, I think it is any parent's worst nightmare that God forbid something happens at the school, so if there is any hint of a threat or a slight possibility that something might be real, you have to take it seriously," said Clem Gover, Dallas.

"I think the kids are resilient. I think they are happy to be here for Dallas and Lehman every year, so I think it is important even though it was on a Saturday, they still got to play," said Susan Magnotta, Lake-Lehman parent.

Parents say the frustrations are growing after the schools were targeted several times this week.

Susan Magnotta has two freshmen at Lake-Lehman; she says the school leaders are doing the best they can to keep students and staff safe, "It's just one day at a time, honestly. I'm trying not to have expectations of what is going to happen tomorrow because that is when I get really frustrated because these kids just went through a pandemic, and I want to see them have a normal existence, and it is tough on the mental health for the kids."

Clem Gover from Dallas has kids in fifth and eighth grade. He tells Newswatch 16 that the threats are disrupting not only the school days but everyday life for many families, "Our kids are of an age where they can be on their own, and they are self-sufficient; we have not had to juggle work schedules or find coverage for babysitters or grandparents, so we have had it easier than some. But folks that are pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, I know that is throwing a large monkey wrench in the daily routine."

The Luzerne County District Attorney's office, as well as the FBI, are involved in the investigation into the threats.
