Football game benefits Santa Squad in Pittston

Members and supporters of the Greater Pittston Santa Squad suited up to play some football at Pittston Area High School in Yatesville on Sunday.

PITTSTON, Pa. — Folks who came together to participate and watch the flag football game at Pittston Area High School were asked to bring a donation for the Greater Pittston Santa Squad's toy drive.

Each year the Santa Squad gives families in need toys and presents for their children to open at Christmas time.

Organizers say their sign-ups for presents have grown by almost 200 children this year.

"This has been going on since about 1989, a few years off but mostly every year, a lot of guys, there's friendships here for 40 years that have been going on, and of course, this is the game that gave birth to our Santa Squad so this is special this is a great day us," said Anthony Marranca, Greater Pittston Santa Squad.

The nonprofit serves more than 1,500 families in the region.
