Flames force 9 out of their homes in Wilkes-Barre

The fire started after 8 p.m. Friday along South River Street in the city.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Fire damaged an apartment building in Wilkes-Barre.

Crews were initially called to the place along the 400 block of South River Street around 8:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a fire.

Firefighters called for extra help multiple times before the flames were brought under control.   

No one was hurt, but nine people are out of their homes. The Red Cross is helping those victims.

Investigators in Wilkes-Barre are looking for what sparked the fire in the Diamond City.
