Church in Wilkes-Barre celebrates 125 years

Saint Aloysius Church along West Division Street held a special mass Sunday celebrating 125 years of service.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A church in Wilkes-Barre is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

Members of the congregation of Saint Aloysius Church came to service on West Division Street in Wilkes-Barre for a special anniversary mass.

Bishop of Scranton Joseph Bambera led the mass.

Parishioners tell Newswatch 16 many of them have been members for years, sharing a lot of memories with family.

"Our whole family, our parents, and all of my children got married here in the same church, and we are keeping it in the family," said Edward Cavanaugh, Hanover Township.

The church was built in 1899.

The church in Wilkes-Barre is also collecting donations that will go towards renovating the back altar.
