Celebrating the Kentucky Derby at the casino in Luzerne County

We might be hundreds of miles away from Louisville, but it was still Kentucky Derby Day in Luzerne County.

PLAINS, Pa. — Hundreds tried their odds and donned their finest hats in Luzerne County for Kentucky Derby Day.

Mohegan Pennsylvania in Plains Township hosted a special edition of "Party on the Patio."

People could dress up in derby-themed clothes, and enjoy live music.  There was even a hat contest. The party attracted plenty of first-timers.

"This is a fun time, just seeing everything and experiencing," said Zina Cashner of Bloomsburg.

"Experiencing for the first time...I've been wanting to come every year. I lived down in Florida where I went to the dog track a couple times so, I've always wanted to do the horses," added Bill Cashner, also of Bloomsburg.

The party near Wilkes-Barre rolled on even after the horses were in the barn.
