44th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Wilkes-Barre

It has been a weekend of parades, and on Sunday, it was the Diamond City's turn to enjoy some St. Patrick's festivities.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — People lined the streets of downtown Wilkes-Barre to watch the 44th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Cars, floats, and performers walked through Public Square, showing off their Irish pride.

Many paradegoers shared the excitement of getting ready to go green.

Parade day is a day many take to show off their St. Patrick's Day outfits, even if it means baring the cold.

"I really like being able to get ready for it. I feel like it's just all a lot of fun, and even though the weather is not great, I'm still enjoying myself a lot," said Delaney Dukes, Wilkes-Barre.

"St. Patrick's Day has always been my favorite, and I kind of just throw it all together and let it go," said Lily Matthews, Warrior Run Township.

"A lot of people wear black, so I come wearing festive colors. You gotta wear your white, your orange and your green! All three," said Courtney Spry, Wilkes-Barre.

The kids were especially excited about the sweet parts of the parade.

"This parade has been really a lot of fun, and just all the people that are here are really great about giving us candy and stuff," said Luke Davenport, Bear Creek.

Those in the parade were excited to throw the candy and more.

"It's awesome. This is my 25th parade with the Friendly Sons, and we have a great time every year," said Mike Bergold, Greater Wilkes-Barre Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

The dogs in the parade seemed to be a favorite for a lot of people.

"The puppies! We like puppies, and we like firetrucks too, definitely," said Danielle Daylida, paradegoer.

Apart from the pups, live music followed to keep paradegoers dancing and warmed up.

"And we're out here bringing live music and a good time. Wilkes-Barres bustling! It's a little cold, but we're happy to play some music," said Dan Van Why, Polka Bandski member.

Despite the weather forecast, many paradegoers expressed they were glad to have made it.

"Actually, it turned out to be a really good day for the parade. We weren't sure so we just kind of jumped on in today," said Daylida.
