STEM School Day at PNC Field RailRiders v. Syracuse Mets

A graduate of Valley View High School in Lackawanna County, Max Kranick plays for the Syracuse Mets.

MOOSIC, Pa. — There will be some empty classrooms around Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania today.

That's because it's the STEM school day game. STEM School Day games are presented by Penn State Hazleton, Penn State Scranton, and Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The day features a pre-game catapult competition, educational STEM-themed interactive tables, and more educational activities for the students.

This isn't just a big day for the kids because this game means a lot to the RailRiders.

They are coming into this one on a two-game losing streak.

Right now, the club sits on top of the International League's Eastern Division--they are half a game up on Syracuse--and the mini-metropolitans are today's opponent.

Last night, Syracuse blew out the home team 12 - 1.

However, not everyone in the stands last night was cheering for the RailRiders.

In the seventh inning, Syracuse went to its bullpen, calling on right-hander Max Kranick. The 26-year-old is a graduate of Valley View High School in Lackawanna County.

Kranick had a great outing. He went two innings last night, giving up no hits and no runs while striking out two.

The first pitch of the game today is set for 11:05 am.
